My birthday is this Sunday, and my girlfriend has been asking me what I want to do to celebrate. Should we go to a fancy restaurant? Find a really cool activity or experience to enjoy? All on her dime, of course 🙂
I don’t know about you, but I like a good deal. Even when someone else is paying.
That in mind, I did some searching this morning and found a great deal. Benihana (the Japanese restaurant) offers a $30 coupon for people on their birthday (and you can use it up to 60 days after your birthday!).
So to celebrate my birthday, we will take them up on that generous offer and make our way there, and on the way home get my favorite donut (an Apple Fritter) for dessert. (Okay, fine: I’ll be getting more than one.)
Now that’s a good deal that I can get behind.
But you know what isn’t a good deal? The taxes we pay on Social Security. We pay taxes on it for decades while we work (via payroll taxes), and to the surprise of many, many of us actually have to pay taxes on it when we receive our retirement benefits!
Talk about getting a raw deal.
Anyway, that’s what my most recent podcast episode is about, your Social Security benefits and the taxes you might pay on them.
Here’s the link to it on Apple Podcast, and you should be able to find it on all other podcast players out there (but please shoot me an email me if your preferred podcast player doesn’t have it!)
Have a great week,
Scott “Birthday Boy” Newhouse
